Accesscu Term Deposits
Fixed-rate term deposits from €1,000 — 3.1% AER for 12 months or 3.4% AER for 24 months, with automatic rollover at maturity.
The official methodology is detailed in the main overview.
Accesscu Term Deposits at a Glance
- 12-month term deposits earn 3.1% AER and 24-month term deposits earn 3.4% AER at Accesscu.
- Open from €1,000, funded straight from your Accesscu savings or checking account, in the app in minutes.
- At maturity, deposits automatically roll over into a new term of the same length unless you ask for the money back.
- Early withdrawal is possible — the cost is 90 days' interest on the amount withdrawn, confirmed in writing before you sign.
Term Deposit Rates
Accesscu term deposits pay 3.1% AER for a 12-month term and 3.4% AER for a 24-month term, with interest fixed at the rate you open on.
Both rates are at the top of the access credit union rate card and are published on the rates page on the first business day of each month. Your own rate, however, is fixed the moment you sign and cannot change mid-term if the card moves.
The 24-month rate pays 3.4% AER — around €34 a year on each €1,000 before tax, versus €31 at the 12-month rate. Splitting money across both terms is a common way to keep some savings reachable within a year while leaving the rest earning more.
| Term | AER | Minimum deposit | Interest |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 months | 3.1% | €1,000 | Paid at maturity |
| 24 months | 3.4% | €1,000 | Paid at maturity |
Minimum Deposit and Top-Ups
The minimum for any Accesscu term deposit is €1,000, and you can top up the same term within the first 60 days of opening.
Applications take under two minutes: choose the term, tell us where the money is coming from, and the deposit leaves your savings or checking account the same day. The confirmation letter with your fixed rate arrives by email within 24 hours.
Top-ups after day 60 are treated as new deposits and simply open terms from the next rate-setting day, so their rate may differ from your original one. All this stays deposit-based and DGS-protected up to €100,000 per member.
- Minimum deposit €1,000, no product maximum below DGS limits.
- Top-up window: first 60 days of the term, same rate.
- Funding from savings, checking or a matured deposit.
- Rate fixed at opening — a mid-term rate rise does not change it.
I split a €14,000 windfall across both terms — €8,000 at 3.1% for a year and €6,000 at 3.4% for two. Both matured exactly on time and the rollover notice arrived a fortnight early, so nothing ever felt trapped.
When a family emergency hit, I took €2,000 out of my 24-month deposit early. Losing 90 days' interest on what I withdrew cost less than the emergency overdraft my old bank quoted, and I knew the penalty number before I asked.
Auto-Rollover at Maturity
Every Accesscu term deposit rolls over automatically into a new term of the same length unless you cash out during the 14-day choice window before maturity.
Automatic rollover is the default precisely because rates change and forgotten deposits would otherwise drift into a lower-paying account. You get a maturity notice in the app and by email 14 days before the term ends, with your options and the new rate.
If you do nothing, the deposit renews at the current rate for the same term, and the interest from the finished term is added to the rolled amount. If you have written instructions to change term, cash out or move to savings, those are followed instead.
- Read the maturity notice
It arrives 14 days before maturity and shows the current rate card for both terms.
- Pick an option
Cash out to checking, renew the same term, switch to the other term, or fold it into your savings account.
- Do nothing? Roll over
With no reply, the deposit renews at that day's rate for the same term length.
- Move on
All options are free; there is no rollover fee and no renewed-term fee.
Early Withdrawal and the 90-Day Penalty
Withdrawing before maturity is allowed, but it costs 90 days' interest on the amount withdrawn instead of leaving it to maturity.
Two rules keep this predictable: the penalty is 90 days' interest on whichever amount you take, not the whole deposit, and it is deducted at the time of withdrawal, not charged later as a fee.
Worked example: a €5,000 24-month deposit at 3.4% AER earns roughly €170 a year, so leaving 90 days of interest undeclared means a penalty of about €41.92. Withdrawing €2,000 instead costs 90 days' interest on €2,000 only — around €16.77 — because the rest stays to maturity.
If you withdraw in the first quarter of a term, the interest earned so far may be smaller than the 90-day penalty. In that case the deduction comes out of the deposited amount; the one-page penalty note you receive when the deposit is opened spells this out, and the app mirrors the same numbers before you confirm a withdrawal.
Frequently Asked Questions About Term Deposits

The rates page shows the current card, and our team is available at +353 1 555 0123 around the clock if you want to run your own numbers before choosing a term.

- Yes — an early withdrawal is allowed and forfeits 90 days' interest on the amount withdrawn, deducted at the time of withdrawal.

- Deposits roll over automatically into a new term of the same length; a 14-day choice window opens before maturity to cash out, change term or lock the new rate.
- Are term deposits a safe place for my money?
- Yes — like all Accesscu deposits, term deposits sit under the Central Bank of Ireland's deposit guarantee scheme, protected up to €100,000 per member.
This method does NOT apply to savings accounts, which allow withdrawal at any time without penalty.
We revised the early withdrawal penalty after a 2022 member panel found 90 days unfair for short contracts.
