Deposit Insurance: the DGS €100,000 Cover

Every Accesscu member deposit is insured to €100,000 under the Republic of Ireland Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DGS), overseen by the Central Bank of Ireland, covering savings, checking and term deposits.

The DGS is Ireland's statutory deposit protection scheme, built on 2014 EU rules and run under the Central Bank of Ireland. It is funded by levies on deposit-taking institutions, so protection costs Accesscu members nothing.

The amount is per member, per credit union — the picture across all deposit products adds up within the one €100,000 limit. Full detail is in the Central Bank of Ireland's Deposit Guarantee Scheme pages, and specific policy notes are on our deposit insurance page.

Accesscu General Insurance Scheme

The Accesscu General Insurance scheme provides buildings and contents cover for homeowners and renters through an approved partner insurer, with premiums deducted directly from your Accesscu account.

The GI scheme exists because members asked for insurance that matches the way they already pay for everyday financial services — one account, one direct debit, no separate portal.

Policies underwrite by the partner insurer, and Accesscu acts as the collecting agent: premiums leave your checking account each month, and cover starts on the 21st day after the first premium clears. At least 38% of schemes we surveyed in 2024 preferred this model to annual lump-sum payment.

I had a small uncertainty about whether credit union deposits were insured the same way bank money is. The insurance page said yes — €100,000 under the DGS — so I moved my term deposit from a bank paying half the rate I get at Accesscu.

The 12% partner discount on home insurance paid for my membership several times over. It took me about four minutes in the app, and my premium is a single direct debit from the same account as my paycheque.

Home Insurance Discount Through Our Partner

Accesscu members receive a 12% discount on home insurance quoted through our partner insurer for any policy scheduled for payment from an Accesscu current account.

The discount stacks from day one of the policy — no loyalty year, no claim-free requirement, no call-back form. You simply complete the quote inside the member app and confirm your member number at checkout.

If your policy lapses, the partner continues to apply the member rate for 60 days so a pending renewal never falls off a cliff.

  1. Request a quote

Open the Insurance tab in the Accesscu app and answer the standard quote questions for your home.

  2. Confirm membership

Enter your member number at the discount step and the 12% member rate is applied instantly.

  3. Pay from your account

Select Accesscu checking as the premium method; cover starts on the 21st day after the first premium clears.

What Accesscu Insurance Does Not Cover

Accesscu does not insure stocks, funds, crypto or any investment product, because the credit union neither trades nor brokers investments and deliberately stays savings-banking adjacent.

We publish the negative list so members can plan. A term deposit is DGS-protected; a lottery-linked savings scheme is not insurance; and a balance held with a separate institution carries that institution's own cover.

Claims and Deposit Insurance Support

Deposit claims run through the DGS and are paid directly to your covered balance; general insurance claims start at the partner insurer, and our support team is on +353 1 555 0123.

For deposit claims there is no form to complete — the scheme matches member records and pays out, so the job of the credit union is to keep records clean. For home or contents claims, ring the insurer's 24/7 line and report the incident within five days.

Members can also talk through cover levels with our support team, which operates 24/7, or email support@accesscu-cmo.com for a written confirmation of their current insured balances.

Is my money at Accesscu insured?
Yes — member deposits are insured to €100,000 under the Republic of Ireland Deposit Guarantee Scheme, overseen by the Central Bank of Ireland.
How do I get the 12% home insurance discount?
Request a quote through the Insurance tab in the Accesscu app, confirm your member number, and set the premium to pay from an Accesscu current account.
Does Accesscu sell investment insurance?
No — Accesscu offers no stocks, funds or investment-linked insurance; its insured products are savings, checking and term deposits covered by the DGS.
If I have a term deposit and savings, is each covered separately?
No — the €100,000 limit applies to all deposit balances held by one member at Accesscu in total.
My partner and I hold a joint account — how much is covered?
Joint accounts are treated per member, so up to €200,000 is covered under the DGS, split €100,000 between the two holders.

This method does NOT apply to insurance payouts, which are processed by the issuer, not the credit union.

Partner discounts were negotiated at fixed 2025 rates; renewal terms are outside this page's data.
